Micro-donations: small gifts, real impact

A micro-donation is a relatively small gift. BluGives currently supports amounts from $5 to $50 and shows the fee calculation and recipient amount before payment.

The quiet power of small giving

Most people want to help, but the size of the world's problems makes any single gift feel too small to matter. Micro-donations flip that logic. Instead of asking one person to solve a whole problem, they ask many people to each contribute a little — an amount so small it barely registers on your end, but which, multiplied across a crowd, becomes real money for the person on the receiving side.

The barrier to giving has always been psychological as much as financial. A $250 donation request feels like a commitment that demands research and hesitation. A $5 request feels like buying someone a coffee. Lowering the amount lowers the friction, and lower friction means more people give, more often. That is the core insight behind micro-giving: generosity scales better in small, frequent gestures than in rare large ones.

BluGives applies that idea to person-to-person support. A donor chooses a recipient profile and the application can record the recipient, amount, and transaction status. Recipient profiles may display a social-account review status and trust signals. These signals provide context, but they are not a guarantee of identity, need, future behavior, or how funds will be used.

Why micro-donations work

Current $5 minimum

The current donation flow accepts amounts starting at $5. The maximum shown in the same flow is $50.

Crowd-funded impact

Multiple donors may choose the same recipient over time, subject to queue behavior and profile availability. Do not assume a funding target or outcome.

Built to scale generosity

A smaller minimum can make it easier for a donor to choose an amount within their budget without committing to a recurring plan.

Transparent at every step

The application can associate a completed payment with a recipient, amount, date, and available transaction status.

Personal, not transactional

A donor evaluates a specific recipient profile and its available social-account review status instead of choosing an organizational fund.

Fees shown before payment

The current donation flow deducts a 3% payment-processing fee and a 2% platform fee from the amount entered. The exact fees and the recipient's net amount are shown before payment.

How a micro-donation works on BluGives

  1. Review recipient profiles. Treat the story as recipient-provided information and interpret status signals narrowly.
  2. Pick an amount. Choose between the current $5 minimum and $50 maximum, then review the fee summary.
  3. Receive a transparent record. Your donor history shows the recipient, amount, time, and disbursement status of every micro-donation you make.
  4. Read updates carefully. Recipients can post updates; these are recipient-provided and not independently audited outcomes.

Current micro-donation amount ranges

The meaning of an amount varies by recipient and location. These examples describe the product's current ranges, not guaranteed outcomes.

$5
Small entered amount

BluGives currently enforces a $5 minimum. What that amount means depends on the recipient's location and circumstances and is not guaranteed by the platform.

$10–$25
Mid-range micro-gift

A donor can select an amount in this range and review the exact fee and recipient calculation before continuing.

$25+ pooled
Larger amount within the flow

Amounts up to the current $50 maximum remain subject to the same fee calculation, profile uncertainty, and payment-provider requirements.
