Recipient verification status on BluGives
Recipient profiles may display a social-account review status and trust signals. These signals provide context, but they are not a guarantee of identity, need, future behavior, or how funds will be used. This page explains the current status flow without turning a limited signal into a broader promise.
How the current status flow works
The product supports email confirmation, linked social-account context, and a review status. It does not currently support the stronger government-document and background-check promises that appeared in older site copy.
A new account confirms access to its email address with a one-time code. This confirms control of the email inbox, not a person's legal identity or financial need.
A recipient can be asked to connect an established social profile. The linked account gives the platform and donors additional context about account history and activity.
The product supports pending, verified, needs-review, and insufficient-data states for social-account review. The status can change as available information changes.
A status or score is a platform signal. It is not proof that every profile statement is true, that the stated need has been independently documented, or that funds will be used as described.
A donor can send a profile URL or transaction reference to support when something appears inconsistent, coercive, duplicated, or otherwise suspicious.
What a status does not establish
A social profile can add useful context, but social accounts can be private, incomplete, impersonated, transferred, or compromised. Email ownership and public activity are not substitutes for legal identity verification or independent documentation of a financial need.
For that reason, BluGives should not describe every recipient as “thoroughly vetted,” claim universal government-ID checks, or imply that a badge proves future use of funds. If a stronger verification process is added later, the public explanation should name each exact check and its limitations.
Questions to ask before giving
- Is the request specific enough to understand what the recipient is asking for?
- Does the profile history appear consistent with the story and location information shown?
- Is anyone applying urgency or pressure to bypass the normal payment flow?
- Have you reviewed the gross amount, fees, and recipient net amount?
- Are you comfortable treating the payment as a generally non-refundable personal gift?
